Organize products into categories in the online shop

Use this when you sell more than a few products and customers need to browse by category, for example T-shirts, books, and souvenirs. Categories in the online shop are tags that you create and assign in the KORONA Event back office.

You can combine three approaches:

ApproachWhat customers see
One product page with a filterAll products on one page, with a Category filter to narrow the list.
One page per categoryA separate shop page for each category, such as T-Shirts and Books.
Products next to other contentA product list on the home page or next to an event, for example merchandise for a tour.

Before you start

  • Set up the products and publish them; see Sell merchandise and other products in the online shop. Only products marked as merchandise in KORONA.studio appear in shop product lists.
  • Decide on your category names. Customers see the tag names in the Category filter, so use customer-friendly names.

Create a public tag for each category

  1. In the back office, open Settings > Tags.
  2. Select Create.
  3. Enter the category as Name, for example "T-Shirts".
  4. Select Should this tag be publicly visible?.
  5. Select Create.

Only public tags appear in the shop's Category filter. The Visibility column shows Public or Private for each tag. To make an existing tag public, open it, select Should this tag be publicly visible?, and select Update.

Assign the category to each product

  1. Open Services > Products and select the product.
  2. On the Online display tab, add the category tag under Tags.
  3. Select Update.

A product can have several tags, for example "T-Shirts" and "Tour 2026".

Add a category filter to the products page

  1. Open Shops, select the shop, and open Page Builder.
  2. Under Pages, select Edit on the products page.
  3. Open the configuration of its Offer List block and turn on Show filter bar on shop.
  4. Save or publish the change.

Customers now see a Category filter above the product list. It lists the public tags of the products in that list, with the number of products for each. Selecting a category shows only products with that tag.

If your shop has a Pages tab instead of the Page Builder, turn on Display the filter bar underneath the page title for the Products page.

Create a separate page for each category

  1. In Page Builder, select Create Page.
  2. Enter a Page Name, such as "T-Shirts", and a URL Slug, such as t-shirts.
  3. Under Content Blocks, select Add Block and choose Offer List.
  4. In the block configuration, keep Offer source set to Automatic list.
  5. Under Types, select Products.
  6. Under Tags, select the category tag.
  7. Under Page Settings, turn on Enabled. Turn on Show in navigation if the page should appear in the shop menu on its own.
  8. Save or publish the page.

The page shows every published merchandise product with that tag. New products appear automatically once you tag them.

To hand-pick the products and their order instead, set Offer source to Manual selection and add the products under Selected offers. Manual lists don't show a filter bar, and new products are not added automatically.

You can add the same kind of Offer List to the home page or any other page. For example, place a list of tour merchandise below the tour's events.

For all block and ordering options, see Customize shop page content and ordering.

Group category pages in the shop menu

To keep the menu short, group the category pages under one entry such as "Shop":

  1. In Page Builder, open Navigation and find Custom navigation items.
  2. Select Add navigation item and set Item type to Dropdown menu.
  3. Enter a Dropdown label, such as "Shop".
  4. Select Add dropdown item for each category. Set Link target to Shop page and select the category page.
  5. Select Save navigation items.

If you use a dropdown, turn off Show in navigation on the category pages so they don't appear twice. For more options, see Configure custom shop navigation.
